Collection notice

What Avantus collects about you and why.

Who we are

Your school uses Avantus, a service of SDG Services Pty Ltd, to turn its own assessment marks into projections of HSC marks and ATAR outcomes. Contact our Privacy Officer, Scott Gilbert, SDG Services Pty Ltd, by email at hello@avantus.com.au.

What your school gives us

For students: name, year group, subjects, assessment marks and ranks, earlier results as percentiles and bands, the ATAR your school holds for you, if any, and any groupings your school chooses to send. For parents and carers: name, email address and the student you are linked to. For staff: name, email address, role and classes. We also record sign-ins, which student records are opened, and any goal a student sets. Results from earlier years, with names removed, are used to calibrate projections for your school.

Where your school switches them on (both are off by default), we also hold a Year 10 student's interests questionnaire answers and results, and their answers and times on the abstract reasoning puzzles (a pilot). Staff see questionnaire results, including the activities a student said they would like most, but not every answer; the answers are deleted after three years and the area scores and a summary of them are kept. In a supervised session we also hold the student's "About you" answers and their progress; the supervising teacher sees progress only. Puzzle results are for staff only and are never used to make suggestions.

Why

To show you and your school's staff results and projections, according to the roles your school sets, and to keep the service secure. If the information is not collected, Avantus cannot show your results or projections; your school can still teach and report in the usual way.

Who sees it

People at your school, according to their role, and the services that run Avantus for us (listed at avantus.com.au/subprocessors). It is stored, processed and decrypted only in Australia.
